{"id":50322,"date":"2026-04-23T15:48:59","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T12:48:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thereporterethiopia.com\/?p=50322"},"modified":"2026-04-23T15:48:59","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T12:48:59","slug":"italy-commits-e25mln-to-ethiopia-under-mattei-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thereporterethiopia.com\/50322\/","title":{"rendered":"Italy Commits \u20ac25mln to Ethiopia Under Mattei Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Italy has committed 25 million euros to Ethiopia under its Mattei Plan to support job<br \/>\ncreation, economic growth, and sustainable development, as Italian companies expand<br \/>\ntheir presence at Big 5 Construct Ethiopia 2026 in Addis Ababa.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement comes during the April 23\u201325 exhibition at the Addis Ababa<br \/>\nInternational Convention Center, where more than 20 Italian companies are showcasing<br \/>\ntheir operations within the Italian Pavilion alongside international and local exhibitors.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative forms part of Italy\u2019s broader economic engagement with Ethiopia, where<br \/>\ntotal Italian investment has reached approximately 830 million euros.<\/p>\n<p>Italy designated Ethiopia as a priority country under the Mattei Plan, a framework aimed<br \/>\nat strengthening cooperation with African countries through development projects and<br \/>\neconomic partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>The 25 million euro commitment targets employment generation and supports Ethiopia\u2019s<br \/>\ndevelopment goals through investments across sectors including construction,<br \/>\ninfrastructure, manufacturing, textiles, agro-processing, and services.<br \/>\nAround 150 Italian companies currently maintain trade and investment ties with<br \/>\nEthiopian partners.<\/p>\n<p>The Big 5 Construct exhibition provides companies with access to public and private<br \/>\nsector projects and facilitates partnerships with local developers and decision-makers,<br \/>\nas Ethiopia continues market liberalization efforts to attract foreign investment and<br \/>\nposition itself as a regional business hub.<\/p>\n<p>Claudio Pasqualucci, trade commissioner at the embassy of Italy in Addis Ababa, said<br \/>\nItalian investments have primarily focused on infrastructure, construction, and agro-<br \/>\nindustrial sectors, which continue to align with Ethiopia\u2019s development priorities.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that ongoing urban development and infrastructure expansion are creating<br \/>\nopportunities for Italian firms to contribute to projects in the capital and across the<br \/>\ncountry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEthiopia is carrying out a vast array of economic and fiscal reforms which benefit the<br \/>\nsystem, for Ethiopian companies, for the Ethiopian economy, and for foreign<br \/>\ncompanies,\u201d Pasqualucci told The Reporter, pointing to improvements in the business<br \/>\nenvironment, including reforms that allow foreign investors to repatriate profits and<br \/>\nfacilitate international payments.<\/p>\n<p>He added that participation in the exhibition supports efforts to build joint ventures and<br \/>\nstrengthen partnerships with Ethiopian companies, particularly in construction and<br \/>\nurban development, as Italian firms seek to expand their presence through collaborative<br \/>\nprojects and long-term engagement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Italy has committed 25 million euros to Ethiopia under its Mattei Plan to support job creation, economic growth, and sustainable development, as Italian companies expand their presence at Big 5 Construct Ethiopia 2026 in Addis Ababa.
