{"id":50328,"date":"2026-04-24T12:08:46","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T09:08:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thereporterethiopia.com\/?p=50328"},"modified":"2026-04-24T12:08:46","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T09:08:46","slug":"officials-keen-on-expanding-south-korean-investment-trade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thereporterethiopia.com\/50328\/","title":{"rendered":"Officials Keen on Expanding South Korean Investment, Trade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ethiopian officials are looking to strengthen cooperation with South Korea, inviting aid and investment in key initiatives like the construction of the airport and new Ethiopian Airlines hub in Bishoftu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ethiopian Ambassador to South Korea Dessie Dalkie Dukamo made the remarks in an interview with Yonhap News Agency on Wednesday, saying that Korea\u2019s technological prowess and industrial development experience can play a key role in supporting Ethiopia\u2019s efforts toward sustainable growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe encourage responsible Korean private investment in agro-processing and green technologies so as to further improve localization and sustainability,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are grateful that Ethiopia remains a priority country for Korean official development assistance,\u201d the ambassador added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dukamo also cast South Korea as an important partner for Ethiopia\u2019s wider national modernization effort to upgrade the country into a regional and international hub.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new Bishoftu International Airport project in Addis Ababa is one of those programs where Korea\u2019s track record in urban development and infrastructure can come into play, he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We see several areas where Korean cooperation can contribute significantly, such as smart city planning, digital governance and integrated transport systems,\u201d Dukamo said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He expressed hope that cooperation will expand to training Ethiopian workers through partnerships with Korean institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur objective is to ensure that infrastructure is not just impressive in scale, but also inclusive, creating jobs, transferring technology and improving daily life for citizens,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On concerns over supply chain disruptions sparked by tensions in the Middle East, Dukamo stressed countries should diversify their supply sources and work together to keep trade routes \u201copen\u201d and \u201cpredictable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEthiopia advocates for diversification, open and predictable trade routes, and investments that better connect Africa to global markets,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joining the BRICS forum in 2024 \u2014 a regional grouping consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and others \u2014 reflects part of Ethiopia\u2019s efforts to support cooperative solutions that reduce volatility in energy and food markets, Dukamo noted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt was a strategic choice to engage more actively in shaping a changing global order,\u201d he said. \u201cWe wish to contribute to a more balanced, multipolar international system while maintaining good relations with all our partners.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ethiopian officials are looking to strengthen cooperation with South Korea, inviting aid and investment in key initiatives like the construction of the airport and new Ethiopian Airlines hub in Bishoftu.
